Talus Loop Hiking Guide

This is a short and sweet hike that begins at the Mt. Si trailhead. This should not be too difficult to find since it's a very popular hike. The parking lot is unpaved and was relatively empty at around 9am. Weather was cold, but no rain and very little snow. Pretty good conditions for a northwest hike!

The trail is exactly the same as the Mt.Si trail for the first two miles. There are two signs pointing in the direction of the loop. The first sign shows up about a mile in and reads "Talus Loop Trail (1.3)". It will have an arrow pointing to the right. Ignore the sign for now and continue to climb up the Mt. Si trail. About a mile further, another sign appears with the same "Talus Loop Trail (1.3)" with an arrow pointing right. Follow the trail right. This is where the trail loops back and descends to the trailhead.

A couple of feet after the sign is an opening. This is called the Talus Ledge(?) It's a nice place to sit and take a break. It offers pretty nice views of the mountains towards the east. It was a cloudy day, so our view wasn't so great.

After the ledge, the trail descends over creeks. The trail is more narrow and the trees provide great cover from the snow (or sun depending on the season). Eventually, the loop trail meets with the main Mt.Si trail. This leads right back to the trailhead and parking lot.

There is nothing really spectacular about this loop. Pretty good climb, but not much of a thigh burner. The ledge, while pretty, isn't the most spectacular view. If anything, think of this loop as another way to get to the top of Mt.Si. There was no crowd, so we finished returned to the trailhead around 11:30am.
